How to Get Your Wife or Girlfriend to Play Paintball

22 02 2011

paintball womenHave you ever wanted to bring your wife or girlfriend to play paintball with you but don’t quite know how to go about it? In case you’ve already asked your wife or girlfriend and they’ve addressed some concerns, we have some excellent suggestions to help you be successful in your pursuit.

One of the top complaints we hear from ladies that have never played paintball before is that it’s too rough of a game. The first thing to remind your special lady is that paintball isn’t a contact sport. There’s no tackling and no fighting. If your wife or girlfriend is really concerned, you’ll want to start with small games maybe at indoor fields that aren’t as crazy or dirty as playing in the woods or outdoor fields. Regardless of where you go, take plenty of time to go over the rules of the game, and try to get in as much practice as possible before the first game. You want her to feel like she’s has an idea of what she’s supposed to be doing.

Along the same lines of thinking it’s a rough game, ladies can be very worried about the potential for getting hurt. I mean, realistically, they could get shot with a paintball moving at high speeds one or more times, and that’s on a good day. It stands to reason that a well-prepared lady will be suited up with well-padded, loose fitting clothing.  Have her try on a few sample outfits, and make sure she can move and run freely. Next, make sure she has the right paintball accessories, especially a good set of gloves and a properly fitting helmet or head protection. We all know that the most painful places to get hit are the hands and the head, so you’ll want to make sure she’s got high quality protective gear to make her feel more comfortable and less scared.

Finally, try to find a few cheap paintball guns that your wife or girlfriend might like. You don’t want to start with anything too expensive or complicated, in case your experiment doesn’t work out, but you do want to let her pick from a few different paintball guns. That way, she can decide which one she likes best and feels most comfortable with. Don’t forget to remind her about how much fun and exciting the game can be.

You’ll definitely have to be patient and understanding, but if you make sure your special lady is well prepared and excited, it can be a totally rewarding experience for you both!

How to Practice Paintball Alone

20 01 2011

Practicing paintball aloneYou might not always have the time or money to head out to the paintball field, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still improve your skills by yourself.  Here are some practical tips and methods to make sure you rule the field, even when you can’t be there.

Spend time getting used to your equipment. Get used to the feel of your marker. Practice looking through your scope.  Some paintball facilities even have practice shooting yards, where you can grab some paintballs, all of your gear, and a few cheap paintball guns, and spend some time practicing your shots.

Get in shape and practice your movements. You must be ready to sprint, and depending on the game, you might have to run fast for long periods of time.  To prepare for the field, run some wind sprints, or go to a local track and run a few laps with short sprints every other lap.  You have to get your stamina up if you’re gonna play with the big guns.  Though it’s a good idea to get used to the weight of your paintball guns while running, it might be wise to leave your guns at home so you don’t freak out the other track runners.

Once you’re in shape, head out to any spot that resembles the playing field, like the forest or a park.  Figure out how to carry yourself to move quietly.  You might even want to try a few belly crawls or rolls to see how quietly you can do it.  Without looking like a goon, you should also wear your paintball gear so you can practice in the same outfit as you’ll wear on the field.

If you want to go to a paintball field but don’t have anyone to play with, don’t let that stop you.  Be a spectator.  Watch how other players move, where they go, and what works or doesn’t work.  Check out the entire field, if you can.  But make sure you bring at least your cheap paintball guns and some paintballs just in case someone needs you on their team!

Paintball Gun Maintenance 101

Whether you purchase super expensive or cheap paintball guns, ongoing maintenance is required to ensure your equipment continues to perform well. Regular cleaning  is a basic requirement for a well-maintained marker. Before disassembling your paintball gun, check the owner’s manual to see if the manufacturer includes specific cleaning instructions. Follow any guidelines they provide. If you have a paintball sniper rifle, you will need to perform maintenance checks before and after each game to make sure your rifle stays on point.  Even the smallest interference can cause problems for your sniper game.

The general rule for maintaining a paintball gun is that you must keep it clean and lubricated.  The gun manufacturer may have a recommendation for what to use to clean the gun, but you want to make sure you remove all paint, dirt, grit, and anything else that shouldn’t be there. While cleaning, make sure you are working on a clear surface–that way, if any pins or screws fall out, you’ll be able to grab them before they’re lost forever.

Even if you have a cheap paintball gun, you will want to keep it lubricated with a specially made product.  Don’t use anything made for actual firearms, as those formulas can cause major damage to a paintball marker.  You only need to use one or two drops of lubricant, but apply it regularly to ensure that the gun components stay well-oiled.  Once your paintball gun is clean and lubricated, reassemble it and find a safe spot to fire off a few blank rounds; this will blow out any leftover debris and dry out the gun’s interior.
